Hesket
Newmarket Brewery, today announces that it will be withdrawing from
the running of the Shepherds Inn at Melmerby
in the near future to focus on its award-winning brewing and bottling
activities. The brewery, which is a cooperative, is working with the pub’s
owners, Enterprise Inns, with the objective that it remains open until a
replacement tenant is in place.
Brewery
chairman Richard Lowth: “We believe it is possible for the pub to run
successfully – and understand its importance to the local community - but
our business model, with a salaried manager and staff, was not viable for a
pub of this size and particularly one without letting accommodation. It’s a
great pub and we provided a good atmosphere with great beer and food. A
replacement lessee, with a different management structure and business
model, would be better placed to exploit the undoubted potential that the
Shepherds has. The Brewery wishes to thank Enterprise Inns for its full
support.
Lowth
continued: “Hesket Newmarket Brewery has a strong product reputation, with
some of the best known and most respected real ale brands in Cumbria. It is
the Brewery’s intention to refocus on its brewing and bottling activities,
and to continue to develop its distribution network in and around the
county. Whilst we will not be taking on the management of pubs in the
future, we will continue to work closely with our outlets to ensure that
mutually beneficial relationships are maintained.”
