Welcome to the website for The Shepherds Inn at Melmerby, in the heart
of the Eden Valley. Recently reopened under the management of
Hesket
Newmarket Brewery, the Shepherds is destined to become the
destination for food and beer lovers alike.
Read about our
food
philosophy, and browse our winter menu of traditional, Cumbrian
and more innovative dishes, all of which make extensive use of high
quality locally sourced ingredients. From snacks with beer to memorable
celebration meals, you will not be disappointed.
Look at the
range of award
winning real ales from Hesket Newmarket Brewery - at least three, and
normally more, will always be available on draught. And we have a well
chosen selection of wines as well. |

The walls of the Shepherds feature photographs by mountaineer Doug Scott
of his exploits in the Himalayas. Individually signed, these are for
sale with proceeds going to 'Community Action Nepal', a charity
supporting health and education projects in Nepal. |

Hesket Newmarket Brewery was one of Cumbria's very first microbreweries,
and Britain's first to be owned by a co-operative. The Shepherds is
believed to be the first time that a national pub company (Enterprise
Inns) has leased a pub 'free of cask ale tie' to a micro brewery.

The
Shepherds and the Brewery also have
strong links with the Old Crown in Hesket Newmarket, Britain's first
co-operatively owned pub, which offers good food alongside the full
range of Hesket beers. The Brewery also supplies to around forty other
outlets around the county. |

Pictured here at the re-opening of the
Shepherds on 17 June 2009 are Brewery manager Andy Webster, Brewery
founder Jim Fearnley, Shepherds Inn manager Ceri Webster, Brewery
shareholder Sir Chris Bonington and Brewery chairman Julian Davey. And
lots of brewery shareholders, Melmerby local residents and the Penrith
Mountain Rescue Team. |
